2009 Night for the Fight
The Foundation’s Young Leadership Committee held its annual “Night for the Fight” party on October 1, 2009, where 220 guests enjoyed a fabulous evening of drinks, dancing and raffle prizes which raised more than $30,000 for lupus research, awareness and patient services.
An outstanding committee, along with their friends, family members and other supporters, raised their voices (and cocktail glasses!) at La Pomme to support the fight against a disease that devastates the lives of more than 1.5 million Americans. Many of the committed Young Leaders are actually young women and men living with lupus, while others have loved ones with the disease.
While an eclectic mix of retro, dance and alternative hits set the mood, party-goers danced, sipped on the signature Orange Loop cocktail, enjoyed passed hors d’oeuvres and a tasting station provided by Pure Dark Chocolate, made new connections and participated in an auction of two one-of-a-kind experiences followed by a raffle of high-end items.
The auction items appealed especially to the men. One committee member secured four field passes and tickets to a Giants or Jets football game (winner’s choice) which, after an intense bidding war, were auctioned off for $3,000! Another committee member secured club seats at a New York Knicks game.
The fish bowel raffle that followed featured 30 luxury items, all of them donations secured by the tireless, tremendously resourceful YLC. Items included an original dress personally donated by Jason Wu, the designer responsible for Michelle Obama’s inaugural gown; a Miu Miu purse; Ermenegildo Zenga ties and Brooks Brothers cologne; an autographed NHL hockey stick; a Diane von Furstenberg wrap dress; Bliss Spa products and many other designer goods.
Committee co-chairs, Alison Lee and Tina Lichtenstein, spoke to the crowd about their involvement with lupus. Alison, a woman with lupus, spoke about her daily struggles with lupus and Tina, who has a sister suffering from lupus, spoke about her family’s challenges.
Board Member Kate Kelly thanked the younger generation — the professionals in their 20’s, 30’s, and 40’s who attended the party — for their commitment to the fight against lupus.
Each guest left with a swag bag valued at more than $75 which contained items such as a, Zagat Shopping Guide, can of RedBull, Fredric Fekkai products, Avon cosmetics, and a New York Yoga gift certificate.
