S.L.E. Lupus Foundation Brightens Summer for 40 New York City Kids with Lupus

Forty New York City children and teens with lupus along with their families converged at Camp Sunshine for Lupus Week hosted by the S.L.E. Lupus Foundation.

Throughout the week, kids ran, swam and played with others in their age group while families attended support groups and discussion sessions with others facing similar challenges.

“I wait all year for the chance to spend one week with other kids who understand what it’s like to be overwhelmed with pain and fatigue every day,” said camp  attendee Christopher Peguero. “It’s made me want to help others.”

“We hope children and families came away from camp knowing that they are not alone,” said S.L.E. executive Director Margaret Dowd. The Foundation raises private funds all year to send families most in need to Camp Sunshine each summer. We are grateful to our supporters, particularly the Martin Estrin Charitable Foundation, for making this experience possible for kids coping with a tough disease.
