We Mark the Passing of Our Beloved Board Member Martin E. Segal

The death of New York cultural icon Martin E. Segal (1916-2012) marks a great loss to the lupus patient and scientific communities throughout the country.

Marty Segal was beloved for so many of his inimitable qualities – humor, warmth, intellect, passion, generosity. But the Board and staff of the S.L.E. Lupus Foundation will particularly remember his devotion to helping people with lupus. As an involved member of the Board of Directors of the S.L.E. Lupus Foundation, he brought his well-recognized experience in management and fundraising to help build a thriving organization.

“Marty was very simply a treasure with unbounded wisdom so often wrapped in irrepressible wit,” commented Executive Director Margaret Dowd. “His discerning and encouraging voice helped the Foundation initiate and drive creative new research to alleviate suffering and press forward with determination to create a life without lupus. We at the S.L.E. Lupus Foundation are privileged to have shared a part of his remarkable life and will miss him deeply.”
