It’s Official!

Our thanks go to Mayor Bill de Blasio for issuing a formal proclamation declaring May as “Lupus Awareness Month” in the City of New York.

The Proclamation recognizes the S.L.E. Lupus Foundation as “the voice for New Yorkers with lupus since 1970” having “worked for decades to spread awareness of the signs and symptoms of lupus and to promote education, research, social support, and quality medical care for our citizens who live with, or care for someone, who struggles with this disease.”

In addition, on May 13, the S.L.E. Lupus Foundation will be among the six members of the Lupus Agencies of New York State to advocate on behalf of the lupus community statewide. The New York State Assembly and Senate are expected to pass resolutions memorializing Governor Andrew Cuomo to proclaim May 2012 as Lupus Awareness Month in New York State.  While in Albany, we will also voice the need for legislation that will support lupus research and improve access to the latest advances in healthcare for all New Yorkers.
