Running for Life Without Lupus
Once again, our ING NYC Marathon Team Life Without Lupus banded together against a common foe, raising more than $110,000 to support science and service at the S.L.E. Lupus Foundation and the national organization, the Lupus Research Institute. Top fundraiser, Nora Johnson contributed nearly $15,000. “It's my first marathon in 19 years, but since lupus touched our family six months ago we have become passionate about the fight against this potentially life threatening autoimmune disorder. 26.2 miles is a challenge, but it's nothing compared to the challenges faced every day by people who have lupus.” (Nora Johnson has since joined the Board of Directors of the LRI to make an impact on yet another level.)
The romantics at LRI were pleased to see sons, brothers, boyfriends and husbands running in honor of the women they love. And seeing lupus patients hitting the pavement is a testament to what individuals can do when they set their minds, and their muscles, to the task. Crowd stand-outs clad in Life Without Lupus jerseys our team had the support of thousands, cheering from the sidelines.
S.L.E. Lupus Foundation volunteers and staff turned out to cheer on Team Life Without Lupus runners in every borough along the 26-mile route!
