Newsletter Highlights Lupus and Autoimmune Diseases as a Women’s Health Issue

The need for greater awareness of lupus and other autoimmune diseases is the focus of an article in A Woman’s Health online newsletter. The stats cited are compelling: more than 23.5 million Americans living with these disorders, according to the National Institutes of Health. And 75% of these Americans are women.  A woman diagnosed with lupus at age 43 is the example used to illustrate the impact of autoimmune diseases, particularly those that are “invisible,” providing insight into how many patients are confronted with the frustration of having to defend how sick they feel despite looking healthy.
